Gareth Jones is a Principle Investigator (PI) in the Centre for Next Generation Localisation (CNGL) and Centre for Digital Video Processing (CDVP) at Dublin City University (DCU), Ireland. He also holds tenured position as Senior Lecturer in the School of Computing at DCU. He has previously held posts at the University of Exeter and University of Cambridge, and was a Toshiba Fellow with the Toshiba Corporation in Japan, a Visiting Scientist at Carnegie Mellon University and a JSPS Visiting Fellow at the National Institute for Informatics in Tokyo. He holds B.Eng. and PhD degrees in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Bristol. His research focuses on topics in information retrieval including cross-language and multilingual IR, multimedia IR (speech, image, video), IR for context-aware and mobile applications, IR for personal lifelogs, exploitation of biometrics and affect in IR and relevance feedback methods. He has published more than 200 papers describing this work He has received a number of awards including SIGIR Best Paper Award and as advisor SIGIR Best Student Paper Award.
